Silence Please: DECART visited the University of London Library

University of London Library: A world-renowned academic resource in the arts, humanities, and social sciences
In April 2025, as part of their visit to Queen Mary University of London for the IEEE EDUCON 2025 Conference, Dr. Haraldur Audunsson (Reykjavik University) and Dr. Siegfried Rouvrais (IMT Atlantique) took the opportunity to explore the renowned University of London Library, with a particular focus on its Education Sciences section.
The visit offered a unique moment of inspiration, uncovering foundational literature that has shaped the evolution of curriculum theory and practice. Among the notable works were early texts discussing the structure and purpose of the curriculum matrix, predating modern discussions on constructive alignment. Remarkably, the collection includes historical volumes such as Descartes’ Dream, Chaos, The Origins of the University: Schools of Paris (1100–1215), Reforming Higher Education, Dilemmas of the Curriculum, and the original 1899 edition of The School and Society by John Dewey.

This visit served as a powerful reminder of the enduring relevance of educational philosophy and its role in shaping current and future approaches to curriculum transformation. The experience reinforces DECART’s mission to bridge historical insights with contemporary curriculum innovation.
