DECART: Designing higher Education Curricula for Agility, Resilience & Transformations

Catalyzing Curriculum Transformation, DECART Represented at IEEE EDUCON 2025 Conference

Constant drivers and challenges are redefining the requirements for higher education curricula and pedagogies.

In April 2025, Dr. Haraldur Audunsson (Reykjavik University) and Dr. Siegfried Rouvrais (IMT Atlantique) presented key insights from the DECART project at the IEEE EDUCON 2025 Conference, hosted at Queen Mary University of London. The presentation addressed the critical need for curriculum transformation in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments.

The IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON) is the flagship event of the IEEE Education Society in Region 8 (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). The 2025 edition, themed “Sustaining Educational Excellence in Engineering”, welcomed over 400 participants from around the world, highlighting the growing urgency to adapt higher education to emerging global demands.

This segment of the DECART project explored how academic leaders and curriculum designers can drive meaningful transformation in engineering education, especially in light of Industry 5.0 requirements. Using a qualitative research approach, the presentation offered guidance for universities aiming to align their programs with the needs of future engineers and rapidly evolving professional landscapes.
