DECART: Designing higher Education Curricula for Agility, Resilience & Transformations

Curriculum Transformation Workshop at UKZN

Durban, South Africa – In August 2025, the UKZN WP3 team of Cecile Gerwel Proches, Macdonald Kanyangale, and Angela James led a curriculum transformation workshop for academics and leaders from the UKZN Graduate School of Business and Leadership. Three visiting academics from Firat University in Türkiye, hosted by Angela, also participated briefly, learning about the various DECART work packages.

The workshop began with an introduction to the serious game from WP2, followed by an exploration of triggers that impact curriculum. Participants then learned about the work done in WP1 and the curriculum canvas. Focusing on WP3, they identified key internal and external stakeholders affecting curriculum transformation, along with their interests and concerns. The session also included a presentation on the influence and interest matrix and the crucial role of the curriculum transformation web in ensuring effective transformation.

According to feedback, participants found the workshop well-organized and highly beneficial, praising its interactive activities, practical exercises, and focus on stakeholder engagement and resilience strategies. One attendee noted that the workshop could “bring quality design, transformation, and resilience to the curriculum of the various programmes.”
