DECART: Designing higher Education Curricula for Agility, Resilience & Transformations

Curriculum Transformation Workshop

Prof Angela James from the UKZN School of Education and Prof Cecile Gerwel Proches from the UKZN Graduate School of Business and Leadership, facilitated a curriculum transformation workshop at MANCOSA (Management College of Southern Africa) in Durban, in September 2025. The interactive workshop presented tools that were developed in the Curriculum Transformation Workpackage of the Erasmus+ DECART (Designing higher Education Curricula for Agility, Resilience & Transformation) project (www.decartproject.eu). The UKZN team (Cecile, Angela and Macdonald Kanyangale) have been working on the curriculum transformation dimension of the project.

Participants had an opportunity to explore curriculum transformation in terms of the following questions: what it means, why it should be done, who should be involved, how it should be done, when it should be done, and where it should occur. This was followed by an interactive stakeholder analysis exercise for participants to reflect deeply on the multiple, diverse internal and external stakeholders’ interests and concerns with curriculum transformation.

Participants indicated that the workshop was informative, engaging, collaborative, and strengthened teamwork and sparked creativity. Participants further highlighted that they valued reflected on key drivers, challenges, and stakeholders in curriculum transformation.
